Penn & Teller's Fool Us (with Jonathan Ross)

With Week 40, thus begins the first week of lots of fast-tracking. Multiple shows across Channels 9 & 10 getting the fast-tracked treatment, though it means different things to different shows. Glee is being shown in Australia within hours of it airing in the US. Survivor: South Pacific is nearly two weeks behind with it's premiere this week, though still considered fast-tracked by Ch9. It's crazy. But don't get too settled... Hamish & Andy's Gap Year

With the run to the end of the year in sight, you'd think the networks have it all worked out. From what we're seeing... some things are still to fall into place. Not many episodes of Top Gear Australia to go, and Channel 9 and shelved it - and they may be considering the same for Hamish and Andy's Gap Year, though it will likely see it through to the end of it's 10 show first season. Channel 7, on the other hand, have a pretty good run to the end with shows like Beauty and the Geek Australia waiting to drop. If I lived my twenties like the characters in twentysoemthing lived theirs, it's very likely I'd not be alive today to talk about it. While I appreciate that I'm far from the target demographic for this show, very little of it resonated as real to me. Do all Gen Y people really drink that much and avoid so much responsibility in their life? Isn't that what your teenage years are for? To the same end, if it's meant to be a comedy that pokes fun at a twenty-something lifestyle then jokes are missing the mark. Just when you think you can't get enough new shows... Here comes Same Name, Camelot, Top Gear Australia, The X Factor Australia and series two of James May's Toy Stories. It's crazy. Mind you, just when you thought reality talent shows were resting, The X Factor comes back with a massive push across 4 nights a week at 7:30pm through the auditions for this series. We seem to be having massive finals every other week at the moment. AGT a month ago. MasterChef Australia last week. This coming week is the last of the very successful season 3 of The Block, with the auctions taking place in real life on Saturday and then the final episode/results to air next Sunday night 21/08. One week into The Renovators and the response has been varied. It's not horrible by any standards, but the 8:30pm timeslot is doing it no favours. Still, this week it's all about the finals: final week of MasterChef Australia, final of this season of Criminal Minds, the final episode of The Amazing Race Australia and the final of Australia's Got Talent - finally. Everything just feels so... final. Hamish and Andy start their Gap Year

Channel 9 have been playing the promos ad nauseum, and I'm pretty sure we'd all heard enough of Hamish's poor rendition of "New York, New York". Finally tonight we saw the start of what Hamish and Andy are spending all the reported money on, as the first and 10th last episode of Hamish and Andy's Gap Year hit our collective small screens. For the badly sung intro to the 'shabby shabby' set (there wasn't anything chic about it), it was pure Hamish and Andy cheekiness, Traxedos included. However much the contract is worth (and rumours are it's a lot), it will all be for naught if Hamish and Andy's Gap Year doesn't fire for Channel 9. To be fair, it's highly likely to. Both Hamish and Andy still ride a wave as Australia's favourite radio drive team even though they only broadcast 1 day a week, and they reportedly work very hard to deliver that. One will only guess the skylarking is all for show as well. At least Nine Australia boss David Gyngell hopes so. It was inevitable, although we didn't expect them to leave this early. Hamish and Andy were always destined for the United States, and now it seems that Channel 9 have, in signing them to a nondescript but cash-heavy agreement, enabled them to be able to do whatever their large hearts and small brains desire.
