Congratulations Dicko – Winner of #CelebApprentice 2012

Celebrity Apprentice Australia 2012

A teary Ian "Dicko" Dickson was last night crowned the winner of Celebrity Apprentice Australia 2012. Mark Bouris decided Dicko was to be hired (though he didn't say that) after the former music executive presenter the better recording and film clip of a song he and finalist Nathan Jolliffe co-wrote in the penultimate challenge in the previous episode. Dicko takes the crown from 2011 winner Julia Morris, and in a generous gesture split the $100,000 prize destined for his charity with Jolliffe. My day job gets in the way sometimes. ;) I'll be in Canada and the United States of America for the next two weeks, with limited ability to watch any Australian TV, so the number of stories will thin out a little while I'm away. We'll still keep you across the finale of The Biggest Loser Australia, the launch of season four of MasterChef, the ongoing juggernaut that is The Voice Australia, and the daily ratings as they come to hand. With the ratings season starting up again this Sunday with Week 8 (Week 16 for 2012), so begins the biggest battle of reality television we've seen in some time. The man responsible for The West Wing has turned his hand to network news with his latest series, to screen on HBO in the United States from June 24. The Newsroom looks to pull no punches and sets up lead Jeff Daniels to be everything we need in a news anchor - egotistical, intelligent and a little bit broken/jaded. Sam Waterston adds gravitas, and Dev Patel (Slumdog Millionaire) will no doubt bring a wide-eyed innocence. Given it's two months away from airing in the US there's no word as to who will get it in Australia but every network (free-to-air and subscription) is already jockeying for position. If the disclaimer didn't set you straight, then by the introduction of the premise you should have guess this was one big ad. And WHAT an ad! Take six sceptics from the general public, heavily vetted and pre-screened, and present them with what is essentially a cooking program premise. Then spin the tables on them by telling them they are responsible for 'investigating' McDonald's Australia to see how they really measure up to market expectations. So very much has happened in such a little space of time. Now that we're at the Easter break of the 2012 ratings season, it's reasonable we take stock and have a look at what the networks have offered up so far this year. Not everyone has a My Kitchen Rules or Revenge in their back pocket to drop out and pillage the ratings at will.
