Kinect gestures added to Foxtel on XBOX360

Kinect for Foxtel on XBOX360

Since Microsoft released the Kinect, there was always the promise in Australia that gesture and voice support would come. It did, but not to the additional services. This update for the Foxtel for XBOX360 service will be a great addition to those that use the service in lounge rooms around Australia. Sweet. From the press release: Can’t find your remote control? No need to worry as Kinect on Xbox 360 customers can now select and watch their favourite FOXTEL on Xbox 360 TV shows and movies with a simple hand gesture or voice command. With Kinect and FOXTEL on Xbox 360 people can navigate through the new-look user interface and locate … [Read more...]

Interview with @BrettMason10

Brett Mason

Brett Mason, by his own admission, has gotten where he has so far through tenacity and hard work. Taking the chance to work for the local paper as a cadet journalist during school paid off and opened a career the young journalist could have only dreamed of. Currently stationed in London as Network Ten's European Correspondent means long hours for live crosses and journeys into Libya and Egypt at some of the most dangerous times in recent history. It's worked out well though as he stares down a massive year for all the right reasons... being stationed in the UK for the London Olympics and HRH Queen Elizabeth II's royal jubilee celebrations … [Read more...]

Regional Qld analog TV switches off TOMORROW!

Regional Qld Digital Switch Off

Have you got your digital set-top box or digital TV ready to go? It's time. For all the regions pictured the analog television switch off happens tomorrow, meaning the only way you'll be able to get free-to-air broadcast television will be either through your Austar connection or a terrestrial antenna (the kind you have on your roof). Depending on when you had that antenna installed, you may need to replace that too! For most people, it's meant a digital set-top box needs to be purchase and configured to receive the signal broadcasting already. This will mean a sharper picture and better audio, as well as access to the additional nine … [Read more...]

Nine’s iPad App Delivers A Late News Bulletin

Nine News Nightly iPad Bulletin

There's a void in late night news bulletions on commercial free-to-air TV. Sure, we get updates through the night, but invariably they are pre-records post the 6pm news bulletin and in Queensland's case can often be that recorded an extra hour earlier from Sydney or Melbourne. Channel 9 have spotted this hole and while they aren't necessarily delivering a FTA bulletin, they are now delivering an update via their new iPad app - specifically recorded and only available via the app. All networks and newspapers note a significant increase in tablet device usage post 8pm, so it made sense that one of the TV networks deliver a short, sharp news … [Read more...]

Foxtel on XBOX360

Foxtel On XBOX360

The way we consume TV is rapidly changing. It's not always about the big screen in the corner/on the wall, people can now get their fix on the go via their tablet or mobile device, and not just free to air TV. With the acceptance of game consoles into the lounge room and onto the big screen, the delivery of television via that medium was always coming. Sony's PS3 fired the first salvo by making iView and other services available via it's console, well before smart TV's started doing it. It's major competitor, Microsoft's XBOX360, retaliated with a pretty decent return serve in late 2010 with the delivery of the Foxtel on XBOX360 … [Read more...]

@TheTodayShow in Ipswich

The Today Show In Ipswich

Our breakfast TV viewing habits continue to be a fertile battleground for Channels 7 & 9. But the battle is tight, and when a market looks like dipping an outside broadcast (OB) is called and hosts & crew hop on a plane and jet off somewhere to "make the happy" live. With South East Queensland the current focus, The Today Show moved into Ipswich last week (01/07/2011) to celebrate 6 months since the floods that affected the area, to deliver 3 and a half hours of brekky TV fro Queens park. Cue acres of flannelette, beanies & uggboots. A good sized crowd turned up and enjoyed free coffee and muffins (as well as a sausage sizzle … [Read more...]

GTV9′s new digs

Channel 9 Melbourne's Docklands Studios

The sale of the Bendigo St Richmond property signalled more than the end of an era for the Nine Network and Channel 9 Melbourne - it was like the death of a family member. For all it's slick, clean lines & fancy-schmancy tech the new studios in Docklands have some serious "settling in" to do before it gets even close to becoming part of the history of the Network. They are trying to resolve that, though, by welcoming the new property into the family like a lost Newton: Additionally, this behind the scenes tour from Rob McKnight and Nine legend Peter Hitchener does reveal some of the colour and special bits of the new studios. These … [Read more...]

Graham Kennedy - King of the Logies

To say the TV Week Logies telecast has gotten dry over the past few years is an understatement. The celebs embraced Twitter, and it got interesting again (for the wrong reasons). Then mobile phones were banned, and here we are at the other side of the interest bell curve. Then, one day, three crazy kids had an idea. If Roy & HG can commentate the gymnastics and do it in a manner that is hilarious and attracts many people, then surely 3 TV nerds in Brisbane can gather enough other people to do the same around the Logies this Sunday night and entertain at least themselves?! This Sunday night, from 7:30pm, MolksTVTalk and Televised … [Read more...]
