…Because you can’t get there by bus (@hamishandandy’s Caravan of Courage #AUvNZ)

Contractual obligations aside, Hamish & Andy's Gap Year series two delivered a strong result for Channel 9 and the boys returning to Australia to deliver a two part series across Australia & New Zealand to see out the ratings year in the Sunday night Big Brother slot will be a smart move (though they are unlikely to beat Sunday Night). Still - self-deprecating fun! From the press release: Hamish and Andy love nothing more than a good ol’ fashion adventure – a passion that has seen them spending years lifting up the most far-flung corners of the globe. But one region has escaped their unskilled eye … until now. In two 90-minute … [Read more...]

Hamish & Andy's Euro Gap Year

This week there's so much to cover as Olympic fever grips Foxtel and Channel 9 (and most of London). What are Channel 7 and Channel 10 doing with their schedules for the next two weeks? Is THE SHIRE as bad as every makes out, and how is LARA BINGLE any better? Why do people keep asking obvious questions? I roped in Josh (@JoshuaWithers) to discuss this and a whole lot more including: THE TODAY SHOW's important role in Ch9's Olympic coverage; the demise of TRICKY BUSINESS; a new host for CAN OF WORMS; what KATE RITCHIE is doing now; why the ABC is replaying PAPER GIANTS; why DOWNTON ABBEY and REVENGE were massive hits (and why prime time … [Read more...]

Dumb, Drunk & Racist

*** IMPORTANT: Something went wrong when we recorded the first segment - it's clippy and clicky and sounds horrible. I'll have to work it out before next week so that it doesn't happen again, but every other segment is fine, so please hang in there. *** The biggest week in the last couple of years for Channel 9 played out as expected this week when THE VOICE AUSTRALIA delivered massive ratings and at least 4 new singing stars. The business of The Voice has been massive and the win has certainly changed the life of Karise Eden who now has a recording contract and a life that is about to be very regimented through appearances and … [Read more...]

Andrew Gunsberg - Photo Finish

WHAT A WEEK! If State Of Origin Game 2 isn't enough, there's an incredible list of other new shows starting up this week. The premiere of Mabo on Sunday is an amazing telemovie documenting the life of Eddie Mabo starring Jimi Bani and Deborah Mailman. Tim Allen's new sitcom Last Man Standing premieres on free-to-air television on Channel 10 and it's not bad - not great, but not bad. Myf Warhurst's Nice, all about 80's pop culture, starts on Wednesday, as does the UK comedy Life's Too Short starring Warwick Davis and Ricky Gervais. Andrew Gunsberg appears on ABC1 with Photo Finish and Hamish & Andy's Euro Gap Year kicks off on Thursday too - … [Read more...]

Hamish & Andy's Euro Gap Year

After an underwhelming start it found it's feet once the stars spent more time out of the studio. With Hamish & Andy's Euro Gap Year the boys in question will be out and about more often which will make all the difference. How funny it will be is up to Hamish & Andy. We'll be watching, if only to get the answer to the question about his "timeslot tatt" from last year - different time in 2012, so has it changed? From the press release: After immersing themselves in American culture last year, Hamish and Andy have decided you can never stop learning and it would therefore be irresponsible not to take another gap year in 2012. The Nine … [Read more...]

Welcome to the business end of the first portion of the 2012 ratings year - nearly time to breathe a sigh of relief and eat some chocolate. Before we do that though, there's lots to discuss and dissect, not least of which the 2012 Logies nominations and the surprises contained therein (Hamish Blake nominated for the Gold Logie?! Surely you jest, TV Week?). There's a bunch of shows ending and a whole lot of others starting so grab a beverage and settle into the usual sparkling repartee you've come to expect from SteveMolk & Josh. On this week's show: THE SHIRE laps up the controversy. (1:34) It's the final week of 2012 MOLKIES voting! … [Read more...]

Hamish & Andy's Gap Year

We all knew it was coming. We all knew it was gonna be in the UK and likely into Europe. What we all didn't know was that it "consistently won it's timelsot" - and for 9 of the 10 weeks it aired in 2011, it did. It will indeed be interesting to see what shenanigans the boys get up to, especially in light of Hamish's Gold Logie nomination. Those deep pockets at Channel 9 will certainly provide lots of opportunity... Hamish and Andy start their Gap Year

Channel 9 have been playing the promos ad nauseum, and I'm pretty sure we'd all heard enough of Hamish's poor rendition of "New York, New York". Finally tonight we saw the start of what Hamish and Andy are spending all the reported money on, as the first and 10th last episode of Hamish and Andy's Gap Year hit our collective small screens. For the badly sung intro to the 'shabby shabby' set (there wasn't anything chic about it), it was pure Hamish and Andy cheekiness, Traxedos included. Light, inoffensive fun, and there's nothing wrong with that. Firmly in the nature of all their recent TV work and entirely reflective of their once a week … [Read more...]
