Biggest Loser 2012 – Week 6

The Biggest Loser Australia 2012

Last week’s Biggest Loser provided us with a whiff of impropriety and a scent of scandal, which combined kind of smells like burnt cheese. Someone had done somebody wrong and would face penal sanctions, and please note ‘penal’ doesn’t mean what some of you are thinking it means. “Who was it?”, ”What did they do?”, ”What will happen to them?” we all wondered aloud on trains and in crowded lifts, drawing stern glares from strangers and transit police. Soon enough, though, the veil of secrecy was lifted in scenes that were in no way comparable to the coming down of the Berlin Wall, other than that we got to see what was on … [Read more...]

Chocolates - The Biggest Loser Australia 2012

We picked up where we left off with the combined girls team and the combined boys battling each other and near death racing up a geographical feature alternately referred to as ‘Hell Hill’, ‘Murder Mountain’ or ‘The Dune of Doom. Later on, Margie would have her own near death battle with the ‘Dunny of Doom’. But before that, the girls had the lead and Ryan was attempting to make it up the hill for the sole purpose of coming back down again. Being the heaviest contestant and gravity being such a defining factor in these events, Ryan struggled to get up to the top. He also struggled to get back down again, his arms flailing … [Read more...]

The Biggest Loser Australia 2012

The week began with contestants lying about in the mud as a medically ordered treatment for a strange but virulent virus that had spent the week rampaging through the camp like a bull in a travel book shop that mainly stocks titles describing trips to China. The mud also formed part of an obstacle course that two from each team had to overcome in order to once again love themselves. When we left them last week, black and blue were battling it out for last place. Graham struggled to extricate himself from the bog, while Luke struggled to extricate himself from Hamish. Alas it was not to be for blue. The ‘penalty’ for coming last was an … [Read more...]

The Biggest Loser 2012

When we last met our intrepid adventurers, red and black team were rounding up sheep in a challenge that would make a New Zealander weak at the knees. The object of the exercise was to get as many sheep into a pen in twenty minutes. This task was designed to prepare the contestants for many hurdles they would face in the outside world, such as how to select lean meats at the butcher, being able to tell wool from other fabrics, and, this being Biggest Loser singles of course, how to force recalcitrant prospective dates into the back of your van. At many stages it was neck and neck, though this early in their weight loss journeys necks … [Read more...]

The Biggest Loser - Week 2 recap

Monday began where Thursday left off, being the second part of the tugging race around Sydney Harbour. While the suspense was high as it looked like red team might just catch up with, and overtake, black team, really there should never have been any doubt that a team full of so many experienced tuggers would win. As Commando commanded that his team pull, and then clarified the type of pulling he was referring to, and as Alex screamed encouragement from a much faster boat, black team pulled each other off, sorry, pulled for each other off, to victory. Shane reckoned that the black team could have done just as well if Alex had been rowing … [Read more...]

The Biggest Loser Australia 2012 - Team Black

Australia is a land known for its character, heart and courage, as adversity meets the Aussie spirit on a daily basis, and the Aussie spirit prevails every second Thursday and one Sunday a month. Australia is a land known for its diversity, where people from all corners of the globe bring their cultures with them to add to the great melting pot of freedom and the right to be discriminated against and used as a tool to further the ambitions of right wing politicians and shock jocks. And Australia is a land known for presenting everyday foods as monolithic tourist attractions. But Australia is also becoming known for something else. This … [Read more...]

Only skinny people experience “real love”?!?!

The Biggest Loser 2012

The promotion for the new series of The Biggest Loser has been appalling, and if it is indicative of what we'll get this season it's setting itself up for an audience backlash the show has not seen in its seven year history. With each new series there's a twist and in 2012 it's the delivery of 16 contestants who are all single and all seeking to lose weight. Not outrageous in itself as when you sign up for Loser your relationship status is noted but not necessarily drawn out as your motivation. Until now. The assertion that people who are overweight cannot find "real love" is absurd. Yes obese people suffer from self-esteem issues, but … [Read more...]

Welcome to Week 9, and now we start to hit interesting territory. The Networks are starting to respond to the scheduling of their shows with movement and/or support based on the first two weeks of ratings, and people are responding in droves with their remotes (Ch7 had 8 to the Top10 shows of Week 8). There's just so much to see, and allegedly so much of it is on Ch7. I respectfully disagree. CAN’T MISS Sunday Night - Sun 6:30pm, Ch7 Biggest Loser Australia: Families – Sun 6:30pm; Wed/Thu/Fri 7:30pm, Ch10 60 Minutes – Sun 7:30pm, Ch9 Modern Family – Sun 7:30pm, Ch10 Bondi Rescue – Sun 8pm, Ch10 Hawaii Five-O – … [Read more...]

The Biggest Loser Australia: Families - The trainers

A massive welcome to Chris Owens as a featured writer who'll be delivering weekly wrap-ups on The Biggest Loser Australia: Families for MolksTVTalk. Simply brilliant writing, and funny to boot. Enjoy! It's been a tough few weeks for Australia and Australians. Floods, heatwaves, bush fires and cyclones have beset the land in an orgy of chaos and "don't you dare link these one in a hundred year events that are happening every year with climate change" induced carnage. The damage bill will be enormous and the toll on the human spirit incalculable. But of course, that was nothing compared with the torture and sheer hell that the trainers on … [Read more...]

HEL-LO RATINGS SEASON. How we've missed you, what with your shiny new programs and completely full competing schedules. You're the reason we all invested in PVRs and IQs. So much stuff that's good, so much stuff that's adequate, so much stuff that... well... maybe shouldn't have been stuffed into the schedule so quickly. It's become quite frenetic Sun/Mon/Tue/Wed with lots of shows competing for our interest. The ratings this week are going to be very interesting, and we don't even have the proper Sunday night schedule in place yet. So excited. CAN’T MISS Biggest Loser Australia: Families - Sun 6:30pm; Wed/Thu/Fri 7:30pm, … [Read more...]
