TV Guide for week ending 28/04/12

Keifer Sutherland - Touch

Who would have thought that The Voice Australia would be the massive hit it has been (apart from Channel 9 executives who sold their first borns to ensure it did at least one million viewers)? This week looks to continue what started last week with 3 more blind audition episodes that will mean The Voice continues to lead the pack this week, with the battle rounds in the weeks following as the teams cut from 12 down to 6 in six episodes. At least there's other things of you're interested... MOLK PICKS Dancing With The Stars - Sun 6:30pm, Ch7 The Voice Australia - Sun 6:30pm/Mon 8pm/Tue 7:35pm, Ch9 Modern Family - Sun 7:30pm, … [Read more...]

Dancing With The Stars 2012 starts 15 April (#DWTS)

Dancing With The Stars 2012 Ladies

Too much sparkle, nowhere near enough substance, and yet here we are again - the new season of Dancing With The Stars is almost upon us. The confusing thing is I understood Channel 7 had already released the air date of the first program, and yet now we have a release telling us that it starts in two weeks. I can't keep up anymore. From the press release: Channel Seven today confirmed the first episode of DANCING WITH THE STARS will go to air on April 15 LIVE from 6.30pm. The celebrity dancers, who this year include a solo yachtswoman, 80s rock legend and international DJ, are all busy training in the dance studio as they prepare for … [Read more...]

Dancing With The Stars 2012 Cast (#DWTS)

Dancing With The Stars cast 2012

"Stars". Here they are, people. Make your own decision on just how much of a star some of them are - if they weren't known too well before they certainly will be now. They're all on a hiding to nothing when it comes to competing against KAK - independent of Danielle Spencer being an early favourite. THIS IS KAK, NOW A CH7 STAR ON CH7's FLAGSHIP SHOW FOR STARS! From the press release: Channel Seven today announced the cast for the 2012 season of DANCING WITH THE STARS. This series promises more glitter, more glamour and as always a touch of unpredictability with a cast including a solo yachtswoman, a rock legend, international DJ, AFL … [Read more...]

Kerri-Anne Kennerley sashays over to @Channel7au

Source: Channel 7

In the worst kept secret since Kerri-Anne was dumped from Ch9, finally Ch7 PR have confirmed the small-screen legend will be joining the coming season of Dancing With The Stars as a contestant, as well as developing her own prime-time vehicle. Oh the LOLZ had at jokes about KAK's shoe fetish! I wonder how long her "exciting new prime time project" sits in development? She certainly knows how to milk a joke - though Kerri-Anne knows Peter Costello isn't a thing anymore... right? From the press release: Channel Seven is thrilled to welcome Kerri-Anne Kennerley to the Network, as the TV legend moves to prime time in 2012. Seven today … [Read more...]

Dancing With The Stars just got Scary (#DWTS)

Mel B joins Dancing With The Stars

I enjoy Dancing With The Stars, and certainly enjoy the work of Dan MacPherson on it, but I'm no obsessive. I enjoyed the on-screen relationship he shared with former host Sonia Kruger, and Sonia's sassiness and quick wit helped make the show the success it is today and when she left the show, the big question was always going to be who would replace her. Today's announcement that The X Factor Australia judge and former Spice Girl Mel B will take over the co-host role is a disappointing one. There is a myriad of other talent available within the network alone (Natalie Bassingthwaite or Fifi Box, anyone?!) and it does offer the question … [Read more...]

PREDICTION: The Hmms of 2012

120110-HmmsOf2012-Title

Not everything we get in 2012 will be a hit. Not everyting will fail. There are some shows that will just plod along in adequacy and not really make a blip on the ratings landscape but not be bad enough to get ingloriously pulled early. This list isn't intended to be exhaustive, however from what we know is coming in 2012 there are already signs these shows might not deliver how it's hoped they will. These are the risky shows that could go either way; the shows to keep an eye on as they may surprise you (or disappoint you completely)... ABC1 Jack Irish - Guy Pearce starring in two telemovies as the title character (A former lawyer … [Read more...]

Farewell Wild Boys

Farewell Wild Boys

It was no "Goodbye, Farewell, Amen", but it was not too bad. The rootinest, tootinest, shootinest PG-rated drama we've had in a long time finished up with two of it's strongest episodes to date. Therein lies the drama of Wild Boys. Across the 13 episodes of the first series, the show averaged week to week a respectable 950,000-odd viewers - premiering with 1,700,000 back in August. Given the 7:30pm timeslot on Sunday night it was always going to have to work hard, and while it didn't win every week it did deliver a respectable second otherwise. That wasn't good enough for Channel 7 with their current "win at all costs" mentality. Wild … [Read more...]

The Hour

...and so, we come to the final week of ratings (Week 48). Channel 7 have already won almost everything, and this week we see lots of shows wrap for the year - some forever. It's a massive farewell to Spicks and Specks on Wednesday night, and also to Wild Boys on Sunday night. Lots of other shows ending for the year and offering prize money - Celebrity Apprentice Australia, X Factor Australia & Junior MasterChef. There's also the end to some quality drama (The Slap) & "quality" reality TV (Beauty and the Geek). There's even Christmas programming already appearing... for mid-November, a very Merry Christmas indeed. CAN’T MISS Sunday … [Read more...]

2011 Report Card – Channel 7

2011 Report Card - Ch7

Channel 7 has solidified it's position as the leading commercial network in Australia with another massive year. 7Two and 7mate continue their rise within their key demos and only add to the Network's dominance. Ch7 barely delivered a dud show in 2011, though they did have a couple that came very close. What was most suprising was what the Network chose to renew and cancel from this year's schedule... it seems 1 million viewers is no longer enough, despite the fragmentation across the digital multi-channels. Though with a roster this full you'd have to question just what the Big Red Train can screw up - if anything - in 2012. These are but … [Read more...]
