The first big Disaster Porn event of 2013 – the bushfires and extreme temperatures across Australia – have delivered News gold to the networks. No shortage of bulletins, either. It meant Nine News (1st – 1,246,000), Today Tonight (3rd – 1,063,000) and ABC News (4th – 962,000) all won their timeslots and all with a big focus on bushfire reporting. Only a movie Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason (14th – 600,000) could distract the masses from the near rolling coverage.
Timeslot winners (nationally):
6:00pm: Nine News – Ch9
6:30pm: Today Tonight – Ch7
7:00pm: ABC News – ABC1
7:30pm: 7:30 Summer Edition/QI – ABC1
8:30pm: MOVIE: Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason (1st hour) – Ch7
9:30pm: MOVIE: Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason (2nd hour) – Ch7
Channel 7 won the night (21.8%), followed by Channel 9 (18.6%), ABC1 (16.2%) & Channel 10 (11.4%).
Nice summary – “disaster porn” is so accurate.
How does TT (or ACA) keep getting viewers? Seriously… I despair…
