The Melbourne Cup Carnival: The Race (1st – 2,664,000) was always going to deliver the strongest ratings for the day, further perpetuating the myth that it’s the race that stops the nation. After that, in primetime it was almost all Channel 7 anyway, though a special mention to NCIS: LA (26th – 602,000) and ABC News (9th – 1,134,000) that broke the trend for the evening. The penultimate episode of Big Brother (13th – 967,000) rated well but ultimately got lost in the noise, and Channel 9’s Tuesday night is in a dire need of a reboot.
