Lionel Richie & Joel Madden

The longest reality television finale in history kicked off tonight with 2 and a bit hours of everything we’ve come to expect from The Voice Australia – good montaging, the recounting of people’s journey, Joel Madden with a wacky hairstyle, and some amazing singing from some incredible talent. A special duet performance of Joel with his father-in-law Lionel Richie singing the Commodore’s classic “Easy” was but one of the special moments in the show.

Each finalist performed twice – a cover and an original song – and this offered the audience even more iTunes downloading opportunity in their voting to get behind their favourite singer. While all four coaches espoused the greatness of their charges it was very clear to see Joel Madden, Seal, Keith Urban & Delta Goodrem have all formed strong bonds with the finalists from each of their teams. Part of the joy that has been The Voice this season has been the way the coaches have interacted with the contestants and provided immediate feedback and encouragement to them after they had performed their songs.

Each performer poured their heart & soul into their two songs:
Sarah De Bono (Team Joel) – “If I Didn’t Love You” – Tina Arena; “Beautiful” – original.
Karise Eden (Team Seal) – “I Was Your Girl” – original; “Stay With Me Baby” – Ruby Turner.
Rachael Leahcar (Team Delta) – “Smile” – Charlie Chaplin; “Shooting Star” – original.
Darren Percival (Team Keith) – “Damage Down” – original; “For Once In My Life” – Stevie Wonder.

It now all comes down to the Finale part 2 Monday when one of the finalists – Sarah, Karise, Darren & Rachael – will learn who has been voted to be the inaugural winner of The Voice Australia. After more performances, including each of the coaches singing, and some padding.
