Insomniac tennis fans rejoice! Wimbledon is back and while “Our Sam” Stosur steps up to have a swing Channel 7 again prove that it’s possible to use your digital multi-channels while maintaining your primetime schedule on your primary channel. It’s on again. For the second year running tennis fans will be treated to live and free coverage of the world’s oldest and most venerated tennis tournament, the Championships, Wimbledon, on Channel 7 and 7TWO.
Beginning on Monday June 25, Seven’s broadcast will be hosted by Todd Woodbridge with expert commentary from three-time Wimbledon champion John Newcombe, along with Rennae Stubbs, Sam Smith and Geoff Masters.
In addition, there will be commentary from a string of the biggest names in tennis via the host broadcaster BBC, among them John McEnroe, Pat Cash, Bjorn Borg, Lindsay Davenport and Boris Becker.
During the first week the live broadcast kicks off at 8.30pm (AEST) on 7TWO before switching to Channel 7 from around 11pm. From Day 8 to Day 11 the coverage begins at 10pm on 7TWO before again moving to Channel 7 at about 11pm. All singles and doubles finals, as well as the singles’ semi-finals, will also be exclusively live on Channel 7, while starting on 7TWO in some states.
Wimbledon 2012 marks a return to the All England Club for the second time for the Seven Network. Seven brings a wealth of experience and expertise in covering the game of tennis, following another successful coverage as host broadcaster of The Australian Open.
Seven’s Head of Sport, Saul Shtein, commented:
