We’ve seen very little TV production take place in Brisbane, which is a shame because it’s such a lovely place. Many locations of charm, lots of great talent (in front of and behind the camera). There should be more. Of course, once you layer in a sport like cricket where you can include one time Australian/Queensland captain and cricket legend Allan Border, it makes a whole bunch more sense. From the press release:

FOXTEL announced today that production has commenced in Brisbane on CRICKET SUPERSTAR, FOX8’s new sports reality show that will unearth Australia’s next cricket sensation.

Hosted by FOX Sports Presenter Lee Furlong, CRICKET SUPERSTAR will follow 15 of Australia’s up and coming young male cricketers as they live together in a state-of-the-art mansion in the Queensland capital and live the life of a professional cricket player.

Over the next six weeks, cameras will be rolling as they cope with the rigours of daily training and match day situations, while also dealing with a number of curve balls thrown their way.

Judging the boys at every step will be cricketing legend and Queenslander Allan Border. Border is an Australian cricket hero having competed in over 150 test matches and amassed over 11,000 test runs. Border’s wealth of experience on the field is matched only by his off-field talent in nurturing and instructing young players.

Rounding out the team will be former Australian test cricketer Graham Manou. A newcomer to television, Manou played for (and captained) the South Australia Redbacks for 13 years, and wore the baggy green when he was called on to wicket keep during the 2009 Ashes tour. Manou will be responsible for mentoring the boys on their journey from backyard cricket ace to CRICKET SUPERSTAR.

The winner of CRICKET SUPERSTAR will earn a rookie contract for the 2012-13 season, as well as a four month scholarship at the Centre of Excellence in Brisbane.

CRICKET SUPERSTAR is a collaboration between North One Television Australia, FOX8 and Cricket Australia. The series is an offshoot of the popular Football Superstar franchise (also produced by North One TV), which ran for three successful seasons on FOX8.

CRICKET SUPERSTAR will be filmed in and around Brisbane, and will air exclusively on FOX8 over summer.
