Kitchen Cabinet

Kitchen Cabinet

It's not often you see unguarded politicians. We've become so used to them bleating that day's sound byte it is easy to forget these are people that live, breathe and eat too. Kitchen Cabinet, while no assurances of helping us accept that our politicians are human, does help give us an insight into Members of Parliament/guests like Christopher Pyne, Tanya Plibersek and Julie Bishop. It's a simple enough premise: The pollie cooks dinner, and Annabel bring dessert, and the conversation in between will be what it will be. In the first episode, Annabel announces up front that Christopher Pyne claims to have no cooking skills whatsoever so he … [Read more...]

Woodley

Woodley

This isn't exactly going to be an unbiased review. I personally think Frank Woodley is one of those few people who can make you laugh just by watching him walk down the street. To hear in 2011 he was developing his own series for TV made me conjure all sorts of visions as to what it might be... surely it would include some physical comedy; there'd have to be some mis-directed humour at the cost of the situation; and it would be Frank at his character-filled best. I was not disappointed. The opening three minutes of the first episode of Woodley is classic physical comedy, with only one word spoken. The entire first episode contains no more … [Read more...]

First promo for @TenBreakfast (#Breakfast)

Channel 10's Breakfast

Well isn't this fun. Look at those guys having fun. Andrew seems like a fun guy. So does Paul - but look out, he might say what he really thinks (in a fun way though). There's Kathryn, reminding us she's a mum and she's fun too. How much fun is Magdelena? She loves the weather because it's so much fun. Fun. That's what Ch10 want you expect from their upcoming Breakfast, starting Monday 27 Feburary at 6am, running for three hours each day. The show will be split somewhat: the first hour from 6am will be seen as "Breakfast – Early" and more news-based; the final two hours from 7am will carry the "Breakfast" moniker and though still … [Read more...]

Victory has a new name (@Danger5TV)

Danger 5

"Nazi dinosaurs are popping up all over Europe." It's everything you'd expect from a series that's billed as a "bizarre 1960's inspired version of World War II" and Danger 5 doesn't hold back. Taking itself so seriously it's hilarious, this new series from Dario Russo and David Ashby is a glory to behold. Danger 5 are an elite group of super-skilled, super good-looking special operatives from across the globe brought together for the single purpose of ending WWII by defeating the leader of the Third Reich. It's a delightfully entertaining fusion of misogynistic James Bond action, smoke, Thunderbirds miniatures, smoke, Power Rangers … [Read more...]

@MorningShowOn7 preps for a big year – with a focus group

The Morning Show focus group

The team are back on The Morning Show and given the changes just up the dial they know they need to stay at the top of their game. TMS have yet to be beaten in the ratings since it began in mid-2007 so they ride a pretty strong, high wave... though the move of The Circle to a 9am start for Ch10 AND an entirely new Mornings team on Ch9 in Sonia Kruger & David Campbell (one time go to guy to fill in on TMS) starts to level the playing field somewhat. Hosts Larry Emdur & Kylie Gillies have always played it for laughs and built a cult following in that regard. This latest promo is a great example of the kind of things the duo are willing to do … [Read more...]

New look @7NewsBrisbane promo & news set

The Story Bridge

New year, new promo. There muse be something in the water. 7 News Brisbane are picking up on the success of this style of promo run already in Perth and Adelaide and have "Queensland-ised" it, and it looks very snappy. Great shots from around the state and including the 7 News team showing how "of the people" they are (they really are nice people, so it is ironic that the promo has to show shots of how nice and normal they are). At least the news team are no longer slowly walking towards me for no apparent reason. NO. REASON. That was just plain unsettling & creepy. Add to this (and other shows getting a facelift) the 7 News Brisbane … [Read more...]

New look for @thetodayshow

New Look For The TodayShow on Channel 9

Buoyed by an improved ratings performance in 2011, The Today Show launches into the new year with an entirely new dedicated set from Monday 30 January 2012. It's a long overdue makeover for the show, adding warm tans, oranges and yellows and the change includes a new logo for the program. The set has been established in a different studio within the Ch9 Willoughby compound to save a rushed changeover at the end of the program into Mornings, and also to add in specific permanent zones for cooking and interviews. It's fresh and new look and one the team are excited about. A whole new reason to wake up with Today. … [Read more...]

SNEAK PEEK: #Woodley

120120-Woodley-Title

Frank Woodley is one of those guys that is just hilarious to watch. The kind of guy who makes walking down the street entertaining. News that ABC1 will be delivering a sitcom starring him was some of the best news ever to come out of their 2012 launch, and now getting the chance to see a teaser of what the series will be only reaffirms that. It even looks like a sneaky cameo from Lawrence Mooney? Woodley will be brilliant. That's it, I have to go watch this clip again... Woodley - premieres Wed 22/02 8pm, ABC1. … [Read more...]

TEASER: #DowntonAbbey Season Two on @Channel7AU

120117-DowntonAbbeyS02-Title

The world has gone crazy. Back in the day, we waited peacefully for the TV networks to deliver the latest season of our favourite shows - like Downton Abbey - when they were good and ready. Nowadays we're in a position where if you can't wait you can order the season two DVD set of this spectacular series from the UK on Amazon and have it landeded and viewed before the show airs in Australia. Importantly, with this teaser promo coming out, it shows Channel 7 are serious about delivering it to fans soon. And it gives them a nice 30 second promo to run in the Australian Open Tennis. My tip: Downton Abbey will return to Sunday nights at … [Read more...]

The Sopranos of the Top End (@TheStraitsTV)

The Straits

"Our business is about minimizing risk, Noel. Be tough, when it counts." Harry Montebello (Brian Cox) is not a man to be trifled with. Everyone's afraid of Harry. With good reason. The latest drama from ABC1 The Straits delivers a uniquely Australian drama set in Cairns, the Top End - particularly the ficticious Zey Island - & Papua New Guinea, and opens a story of mixed culture, honour among theives and Underbelly-esque violence and intrigue. The characters are fresh and real, and the script offers strong roles to the entire cast (who've all clearly made the roles their own). The gentle turqoise waters offer a wonderful counterpoint … [Read more...]
