Uncle Jed wins AGT 2013

Uncle Jed, the popular trio from Sydney, NSW, have taken out the AGT crown and pocketed $250,000. During tonight’s nail-biting “live decider”, it came down to the final three: Uncle Jed, Greg Gould and The Chase and Brisbane dance crew Academy of Brothers. Greg Gould and the Chase were popular runner ups. Hosted by Julia Morris, Australia’s Got Talent 2013 featured a star-studded panel of judges: Kyle Sandilands, Dawn French, Geri Halliwell and Timomatic. In tonight’s show Timomatic performed his new single Everything Is Allowed with former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell receiving a standing ovation for her acoustic version of their … [Read more...]

@GotTalentAU got Judges

Australia's Got Talent - Dawn French

Well, they're announced, and pending any kind of injunction or legal challenge, they'll sit at the big desk and tell us what they declare to be the best of Australia's talent (from the pool that auditioned, anyway). If you run a reality comp you need judges. Judge they shall... From the press release: Mel B, Dawn French, Timomatic and Kyle Sandilands have now been confirmed as the judging panel for Australia’s Got Talent; set to be entertainment television’s biggest revolution when it moves to the Nine Network in 2013. The 2012 Molkies

With thanks to Josh we captured a lot of the action of the 2012 Molkies, including interviews with those that attended and award winners. Everyone's got an opinion when it comes to TV and it was good to hear them shared throughout the evening. On this week's show: We congratulate the winners, commiserate with the losers, and "party on!" with everyone who came along on the night. As always there's time to drop in some news of the week and our Must Watch recommendations at the end (some recommendations are better than others). Keep in touch with us - you can e-mail podcasts@molkstvtalk.com, tweet either Josh or SteveMolk and we'll give … [Read more...]

2012 Molkies Results

It's been another big year - we've nominated, voted, partied and presented - and the 2012 Molkies have again been an unequivocal success. Once the photos get back from the photo place (i.e. out of Heath Carney's camera), I'll be posting the photos from the night on the MolksTVTalk Facebook page. I'll also post the highlights of the uStream on the MolksTVTalk YouTube channel. You can also check out the highlights from the tweetstream while they last. The point of us getting together, however was to present the 2012 Molkie awards. So, for those that were interested, the winners are... MolksTVTalk the Podcast – S02E10

We sound very pretty today. Not a Kasey Chambers kind of pretty enough, but pretty nonetheless. Searching for a sugar daddy paid off and from this week on we have actual microphones and recording gear and we sound almost semi-amateur. We think, anyway. Given it's the final week of the first part of ratings for 2012 we did discuss what was great and what was EXCESS BAGGAGE this year. You make your calls and see if you agree with us. There's also a huge Q&A session towards the end of the podcast where we answer all sorts of questions (none of them accurately), so if you asked, it was answered. On this week's show: The 2012 MOLKIES. … [Read more...]

MolksTVTalk – the Podcast (S01E16)

It's a podcast of extremes: SteveMolk unleashes a no-holes barred barrage about Kyle Sandilands, Kyle's television career and how Kyle does or doesn't accepts criticism; Josh delicately balances on the fence not wanting to offend his current and possibly future employer by maintaining a very flaccid "objective" stance on the issue. We also speculate wildly over the content of the 2012 schedule launches of both ABC TV and Channel 9, while contemplating our navels and battling with ever-crappy internet speeds afecting Skype. (I also need to apologise for the length of this one. There was just so much we needed to cover.) TV, thy name be … [Read more...]

Kyle & Jackie O’s #NightWithTheStars

Kyle & Jackie O's Night With The Stars

There are many phrases that could be used to describe the collection of visual diarrhea that was Kyle & Jackie O's Night With The Stars... but "engaging event television including interesting celebrity interviews" won't be one of them. Viewers were assaulted with poor audio from the start; the duo's poor interviewing skills (guest Nick Cannon - Mr Mariah Carey to you - struggled to keep his segments afloat); the set looked trashy & sterlie. At least the desk managed to protect their guests from having to be within reaching distance of the "hosts". The tragedy extended throughout the entire show. For example, these … [Read more...]

MolksTVTalk – the Podcast (S01E15)

It's time to make a confession. When we started out with MolksTVTalk - the Podcast 15 episodes ago, we planned to deliver a tight 30 min program that had a good mix of news, an interview, a chat about the ratings and some recommendations of TV to watch. We wanted it to be entertaining, and we wanted to break some stories there as well as dive under the covers of the headlines and develop the story further. Fat chance of all that for this episode. At least it's mostly entertaining. Mostly. We did get to have an excellent chat with actor/author/Sharks fan Brendan Cowell about his involvement in the making of The Slap for the ABC. A rare high … [Read more...]

Channel 7′s contractual obligation (#NightWithTheStars)

Jackie O & Kyle - Night With The Stars

It would be far too easy to be critical of Kyle & Jackie O's Night With The Stars. Especially since we don't actually know what the show will look like. The most this teaser promo does is give us a logo. That so many network stars had to be roped in to help kick this baby along is an indication it likely isn't very good. Also noting that it's not yet been given an airdate suggests they don't trust the program to the ratings period and it will get life just as the television year finishes. The show also contains Jackie O, who has a track record of being the television equivalent of the angel of death. Popstars, Australian Princess, The Nation … [Read more...]
