Sweet merciful crapballs!!! The Voice Australia (1st – 2,541,000) not only wins the night but punishes all other comers. The Block (2nd – 1,404,000) returned for season five and rated very respectably, adding to Ch9’s success two nights in a row. It looks like finally they could be on a winner (but can they make enough runs in the early part of the week to see the rest of the week out to win their first week in ages?). Australia’s Got Talent (6th – 1,196,000) premiered and pretty much got lost in the noise. Even Revenge (8th – 1,106,000) – a show that has been a night winner for Ch7 – paled in comparison to the schedule for a second big night for Ch9. Importantly all this success is rubbing off for Nine News (3rd – 1,270,000) and A Current Affair (5th – 1,208,000), with both winning their timeslots with ease – at a critical time for the network, too. Ch10 & ABC1 struggled to get much into the Top 20, though the latter managed a slightly better than the former.
It’s been a LONG time since we’ve seen a schedule win by Ch9 this comprehensive. Again, the audience catch-up/recorded figures out in a week will be very interesting (predicting a big jump for Ch7 shows).
Timeslot winners (nationally):
6:00pm: Nine News – Ch9
6:30pm: A Current Affair – Ch9
7:00pm: The Block – Ch9
7:30pm: The Block/The Voice Australia – Ch9
8:30pm: The Voice Australia – Ch9
9:30pm: Revenge/How I Met Your Mother – Ch7
Channel 9 won the night (32.1%), followed by Channel 7 (21.5%), ABC1 (12.4%) & Channel 10 (10.9%).
When was the last time we saw a show other than a finale or sporting event get such massive figures ?
It’s truly astounding.
I’ve never seen such a positive reaction to a new show.
Agreed, Geoff. It’s amazing. I don’t think we’ve seen a launch as big, or as much maintained interest (for the first two nights). It’s enough to give The Block an inferiority complex (thank you!)…
