Voting is in. The 2011 Logies nominees are out and there’s joy for some, tears for others, and a general malaise washing over the Australian TV viewing public.
The Logies have more than had their moment (which is why the Molkies exist, but I digress), and sadly it’s the show associated with them that perpetuates the pain. Sure, those in TV need to celebrate. I applaud the industry as a whole, and those who work hard each day to bring us some (on occasion) quality programming. However it seems that the Logies show has been more miss that hit for some time now. If only we could have a real host.
The 2011 Logies are special because no one had to go and buy a magazine this year to vote – it was all done on the internet (so, basically, we only have ourselves to blame). Now, the voting for the Gold Logie turns to 1902 numbers… I guess they have to pay for the dinner somehow.
For your general entertainment, I’ve casty my eye across all the “most popular” categories (those determined by the public), and offer my predictions…
(All predicted winners marked in bold.)
TV WEEK GOLD LOGIE – Most Popular Personality on Television
Adam Hills (Spicks And Specks, ABC1)
Asher Keddie (Offspring, Network Ten)
Chrissie Swan (The Circle, Network Ten)
Jessica Marais (Packed To The Rafters, Channel Seven)
Karl Stefanovic (Today, Nine Network)
Rebecca Gibney (Packed To The Rafters, Channel Seven)
I heart Chrissie Swan. Hard. Love the way she does what she does. Sadly, I don’t think she’ll be a look in – this one is the Karl and Rebecca show, and I predict that this is another one for Rebecca Gibney. The call to the Packed To The Rafters fans will be too strong.
TV WEEK SILVER LOGIE – Most Popular Actor
Callan Mulvey (Rush, Network Ten)
Don Hany (Offspring, Network Ten / Tangle, Foxtel [Showcase])
Erik Thomson (Packed To The Rafters, Channel Seven)
Hugh Sheridan (Packed To The Rafters, Channel Seven)
Michael Caton (Packed To The Rafters, Channel Seven)
The Rafters factor again. Plus Hugh is just a nice guy. Bottom line this is a Rafters Logie full stop.
TV WEEK SILVER LOGIE – Most Popular Actress
Asher Keddie (Offspring, Network Ten)
Jessica Marais (Packed To The Rafters, Channel Seven)
Margot Robbie (Neighbours, Network Ten)
Rebecca Gibney (Packed To The Rafters, Channel Seven)
Zoe Ventoura (Packed To The Rafters, Channel Seven)
See above rationale. Change “Hugh” for “Jessica”. Same applies.
TV WEEK SILVER LOGIE – Most Popular Presenter
Adam Hills (Spicks And Specks, ABC1)
Chrissie Swan (The Circle, Network Ten)
Hamish Blake (Hamish & Andy ‘Specials’, Network Ten)
Karl Stefanovic (Today, Nine Network)
Shaun Micallef (Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation, Network Ten)
This will be the tightest of all the categories. Absolutely ANY ONE of the nominees could win. It’s gonna be close… could be Karl, could be Hamish, could be Chrissie, and so on. I predict Micallef to win only because he’s the tallest. What’s important to note is the shows represented and the generic “youth” of the nominees.
MOST POPULAR NEW MALE TALENT
Charles Cottier (Home And Away, Channel Seven)
Eddie Perfect (Offspring, Network Ten)
Firass Dirani (Underbelly: The Golden Mile, Nine Network)
Manu Feildel (My Kitchen Rules, Channel Seven)
Ryan Corr (Packed To The Rafters, Channel Seven)
There are too many women lusting after him for Manu Feildel to not win.
MOST POPULAR NEW FEMALE TALENT
Chrissie Swan (The Circle, Network Ten)
Emma Booth (Underbelly: The Golden Mile, Nine Network)
Hannah Marshall (Packed To The Rafters, Channel Seven)
Julie Goodwin (Home Cooked! With Julie Goodwin, Nine Network)
Poh Ling Yeow (Poh’s Kitchen, ABC1)
It’ll come down to Chrissie or Emma or Hannah. With much respect to Poh & Julie, their ships have sailed (albeit quite aromatically).
MOST POPULAR DRAMA SERIES
Home And Away (Channel Seven)
Neighbours (Network Ten)
Offspring (Network Ten)
Packed To The Rafters (Channel Seven)
Rush (Network Ten)
Underbelly: The Golden Mile (Nine Network)
NO WAY Neighbours will win. It can’t. For that fact none of the shows can win, as Rafters will walk away with it.
MOST POPULAR LIGHT ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAM
Good News Week (Network Ten)
Hey Hey It’s Saturday (Nine Network)
Sunrise (Channel Seven)
Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation (Network Ten)
The Circle (Network Ten)
For the love of all things holy, people – DO NOT vote for Hey Hey. Just flat out don’t encourage the man. Be smart. Vote TAYG.
MOST POPULAR LIFESTYLE PROGRAM
Better Homes And Gardens (Channel Seven)
Domestic Blitz (Nine Network)
Getaway (Nine Network)
Grand Designs Australia (Foxtel [The Lifestyle Channel])
Ready Steady Cook (Network Ten)
Ready Steady Cook – BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA… [sigh] It got nominated? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA…
Better Homes and Gardens owns Friday night 7:30pm for a reason. Just someone start strapping Johanna Griggs into a dress now.
MOST POPULAR SPORTS PROGRAM
Before The Game (Network Ten)
The Footy Show (AFL) (Nine Network)
The Footy Show (NRL) (Nine Network)
The Matty Johns Show (Channel Seven)
Wide World Of Sports (Nine Network)
Really? Matty Johns?!?
How do you pick from the best of a bad bunch? Before the Game SHOULD win, but it’ll be one of the Footy Shows. NRL by default.
MOST POPULAR REALITY PROGRAM
Dancing With The Stars (Channel Seven)
MasterChef Australia (Network Ten)
The Biggest Loser Australia (Network Ten)
The Farmer Wants A Wife (Nine Network)
The X Factor (Channel Seven)
If MasterChef doesn’t win this Logie… well, I could make all sorts of threats, but I’m as safe as a house. MasterChef FTW!
MOST POPULAR FACTUAL PROGRAM
Bondi Rescue (Network Ten)
Bondi Vet (Network Ten)
RPA (Nine Network)
Undercover Boss Australia (Network Ten)
Who Do You Think You Are? (SBS)
Likely the battle of Bondi. The Vet will get it over the Lifeguards simply because when he smiles, his chin & jawline ensures that every woman within 50 metres melts.
