Quite seriously, what’s not to love? A comedy about a group of hard-core gay sci-fi fans written by John Richards, with three eps co-written by one of the funniest comedians in the country in co-star Adam Richard. Welcome to Outland.
The six-part comedy series focuses on the lives, loves and never-ending dramas of the five sci-fi fans forced to form their own fan club after being booted from the group they originally met in. There’s Max (Toby Truslove), insecure and looking for love; the sexually-adventurous, muffin-baking Andy (Paul Ireland); Rae (Christine Anu), the moral centre and unofficial head of the group; the high-camp, high-maintenance Fab (Adam Richard); and the wealthy but socially-inept Toby (Ben Gerrard). It’s an odd, and often precarious combination of personalities. But oh so delicious.
The promo does the series great justice (I especially loved the alternative names for their sci-fi group), and sets the series up delightfully. This will be a great addition to Wednesday nights for the ABC.
