Julia Zemiro interviewing interesting people about who they are? Sign me up, front and centre. From the press release:
Julia Zemiro joins ABC TV to present a new entertainment show, JULIA ZEMIRO’S HOME DELIVERY, which has nothing to do with pizza or midwifery, and will premiere on Wednesday, September 18 at 9pm on ABC1.
This revealing 5 x 30 minute interview show begins with the premise: if you really want to get to know people, the best place to start is where they started themselves… their childhood homes.
Each week, Julia will invite one of Australia’s finest comics to take a trip down Memory Lane. And Memory Bus Route. And Memory Bike Path. Julia and her guest will make their way from the seat of childhood memories, the family home, through the surrounding neighbourhood and all the way to the school gate, reliving formative moments, talking about life, love and achievement, about the past, present and future.
What Julia discovers about her guests will explain, well, almost everything.
Time-travelling guests Carl Barron, Noeline Brown, John Safran, Alan Brough and Shane Jacobson will share with Julia where they stacked their first bike, stole their first kiss and learned the art of a withering comeback.
Julia says, “It’s been a little dream of mine to interview interesting folk … especially comics, funny people, agitators. But not in a studio. So I’m driving, walking and talking them through their younger years; to their childhood homes, their schools, their favourite haunts. It’s been a privilege to get up close to how they became who they are today. And they’re bloody funny.”
Jennifer Collins, ABC TV’s Head of Entertainment, says, “This series is tailor-made for Julia to share her charm, warmth and natural curiosity with the comedians she admires. This trip down memory lane will uncover the forces and events that helped shape them and their comedy.”
The series will be produced by Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder, the company behind Enough Rope, Go Back to Where You Came From and the Gruen stable.
Presenter and co-producer: Julia Zemiro. Director: Damian Davis. Series Producer: Polly Connolly. Executive Producers: Damian Davis and Jon Casimir for Cordell Jigsaw Zapruder (CJZ). ABC Executive Producer: Richard Huddleston.
I loved the concept of this series and enjoyed hearing the comedians stories. The one annoyance is Julia Zemiro constantly repeating everything the comedians say. It’s almost like a nervous tic. She otherwise a likable host, perhaps it was nerves ?
