Congratualtions to Johann and to Fox 8 for a great series of The Recruit, and completely reasonable to announce it will return in 2015. From the press release:
Johann Wagner has been named THE RECRUIT and signed an AFL contract with Port Adelaide Football Club during tonight’s action-packed live final of the hit FOX8 AFL reality series.
The 23-year-old electrician from Port Lincoln, South Australia narrowly beat Bradie Foster (25, Albany Creek, QLD) to take out this life-changing prize. Chris Moreland (24, Geelong, VIC) followed in third position.
Johann Wagner said, “I am so incredibly excited to have won THE RECRUIT and can’t wait to meet the boys and start training. I’ve supported Port Adelaide since they joined the AFL, so to now be playing for them is a dream come true.”
Michael Voss, THE RECRUIT Head Coach, said “Johann Wagner has been a stand-out player throughout this entire competition. He will fit nicely into an AFL environment, and I expect him to improve very quickly because he has the speed, size and power necessary to play at the next level.”
Hosted by Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald live from Melbourne’s Crown at Palms, tonight’s episode saw club representatives from each of the 18 AFL teams vote on the final three players on a 3-2-1 basis.
After Johann was named the inaugural winner of THE RECRUIT, a special NAB AFL draft was held in which each of the clubs had the option to nominate him as a draft selection. After pitches from the Gold Coast Suns, Greater Western Sydney and Port Adelaide, Johann chose to sign with Port Adelaide.
Johann will now move to Adelaide and commence training with Port Adelaide Football Club as a Category B rookie.
Foxtel also announced during tonight’s live final that due to the enormous success of the first series, a second season of THE RECRUIT will be produced for 2015. Potential players wishing to register for the next round of auditions should head to www.fox8.tv/therecruit for further details.
THE RECRUIT is produced by McGuire Media in association with The Media Tribe exclusively for Foxtel.
