A fitting farewell to a boy who became the focus of one of the biggest police investigations in Queensland’s history, and whose name is borne on the foundation to promote child safety in his honour. Bruce, Denise & the entire Morcombe family can finally say goodbye. From the press release:
This Friday, Nine News will celebrate the life of 13 year-old Daniel Morcombe as Queensland comes together for a final farewell.
Daniel went missing while he waited for a bus, nine years to the day, on the Sunshine Coast hinterland. His parents, Denise and Bruce, have received loyal support and admiration from throughout Australia for their relentless efforts in finding out what happened to their son and their determination to educate the public to prevent similar heartache for other families.
Nine’s coverage will begin with updates from the Sunshine Coast in TODAY from 5.30am and Nine’s Morning News live at 10am.
At 10.50am, Nine News Queensland will present a live telecast of Daniel’s public funeral direct from St Catherine of Siena Catholic Church at Sippy Downs, the site of Daniel’s former school.
Coverage will be hosted by Nine News’ Andrew Lofthouse, Melissa Downes and Darren Curtis, with a full summary of the day’s events in the main bulletin at 6pm.
Those attending Daniel’s funeral are asked to wear a touch of red, the colour Daniel was wearing when he went missing, and to make a donation to the Daniel Morcombe Foundation in lieu of flowers (www.danielmorcombe.com.au).
