Poppy Montgomery as Carrie Wells

Unforgettable delivers a(nother) strong cop drama with a(nother) twist, made that bit more enjoyable through the inclusion of Australian acress Poppy Montgomery in the lead role.

Montgomery, previously seen in Without A Trace, is easily watchable as Carrie Wells. Her role as the former detective suffering from hyperthymesia is believable, though somewhat disturbing. The disorder makes her hyper-observant, with a memory so flawless that every place, every conversation, every moment of joy and heartbreak is forever embedded in her mind. Who’d want that in a partner after an argument?! Her performance is engaging and entertaining, if a little stilted, but she’s a clear standout within the cast.

It’s another in the series of Channel 9’s creative use of the term “fast tracked”, after airing the series premiere in the US on September 20. Still, a couple of weeks isn’t too bad, but it pales in comparison to the same day fast tracking they are delivering of Two and a Half Men for example.

The demons that drive Wells are ever present, and a clear motivation for her to start a new role working with the NYPD and alongside her one-time boyfriend. Unforgettable is a slick drama offering, though you can’t help feeling like you’ve seen it all before. Probably because over time, you already have.

Unforgettable – Thu 8:30pm, Ch9.
