Well isn’t this a turn up for the books. Tennis didn’t actually win the night (though that may be because the Aussie competing didn’t take to the court until 10pm AEDT). The Big Bang Theory (1st – 1,647,000) has the honour for Monday, and even the 7pm repeat of The Big Bang Theory (7th – 1,136,000) beat out the return of usual juggernauts Home and Away (9th – 1,064,000) & The Biggest Loser (11th – 897,000). Not a stellar start for Loser, though comparisons of ratings while the Tennis is on are tough, at best. The first one hour 6pm The Project (19th – 494,000) didn’t fare too badly, especially when you consider that for the same timeslot Ch7 averaged 1,191,500 viewers & Ch9 averaged 1,104,000 viewers. It’s the toughest timeslot in the business and contextually The Project has a lot to offer the timeslot… to paraphrase George Negus, it just needs “more of you buggers watching it”. Neighbours didn’t crack 260,000 viewers either on Eleven (because of it, I’d wager).
Timeslot winners (nationally):
6:00pm: Seven News – Ch7
6:30pm: Today Tonight – Ch7
7:00pm: Big Bang Theory – Ch9
7:30pm: Seven’s Tennis: 2012 Aust Open – Day 8 Night Session – Ch7
8:30pm: Seven’s Tennis: 2012 Aust Open – Day 8 Night Session – Ch7
9:30pm: Seven’s Tennis: 2012 Aust Open – Day 8 Night Session – Ch7
Channel 7 won the night (32.8%), followed by Channel 9 (20.8%), Channel 10 (11.7%) & ABC1 (7.8%).
