Ways to succeed in Australian television without really trying – set up a satirical newspaper and wait for the offers to roll in. Which, in the case of The Chaser, they actually did. Since CNNNN they’ve found a home exclusively on ABC1 until in 2012 when they dropped a change in approach – a comedic game show, based on a radio play, airing on Channel 7 (naturally). What a year 2012 has been for Julian and the team – their first (successful) foray into commercial television with The Unbelievable Truth and the second series of The Hamster Wheel on ABC1 has meant they almost were scheduled against themselves… sweet irony that one of their own programs might steal their thunder.
I was very lucky to sit down with Julian and discuss life as a Chaser and how one manages to score the best fairy godmother in Australian television…
