Well, it’s done for another year and while Neil Patrick Harris did his darndest it didn’t quite work out for him. Different writers? Comparing the Deschanel sisters to performing prostitutes? I dunno.

The big controversy continued to rage over the individual In Memoriam tributes for five passings this year, including Cory Monteith but no nod for Jack Klugman or Larry Hagman. Add to that while the words were touching there was no footage of the performances that made these people worthy of being singled out. Poor form, Emmys.

Then there was who won what over whom. House Of Cards all but ignored, Breaking Bad almost the same (Anna Gunn deservedly winning her category) and Behind The Candelabra walking away with almost every award it was nominated for. The standing ovation for Bob Newhart who received an Emmy the week before – his first – was touching and as overdue as his award itself. Tony Hale assisting Julia Louis-Dreyfuss accept her award for Most Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy was TV come to glorious life, and Amy Poehler/Tina Fey stole the opener – someone needed to. Mad Men again walks away as the losingest show at the Emmys (perhaps everyone is done?).

Who let Carrie Underwood sing? And why? At least it made sense to have Elton John play a tribute to Liberace.

The people who walked away with them all follows. Given I’ve already been singled out for agreeing that Modern Family should have won Most Outstanding Comedy over Louie or Veep – bring on your disagreement and derision. I have broad shoulders. (My tips in italics, the winners in bold.)
