It’s finally happened. WAG Nation was filmed over 12 months ago, and there’s been all sorts of hushed comments as to why it’s been delayed. As was always the risk in filming this kind of series and delaying the release, one of the WAGs featured is now listed as the ‘then girlfriend’ of a sporting star. The more things change, whack on some more fake tan. From the press release:
The highly anticipated new reality series, WAG Nation, which follows the extraordinary lives of five independent, professional women who also happen to be the wives and girlfriends of some of Australia’s biggest sporting stars, will premiere on Wednesday, April 18 at 9.30pm, exclusive to Arena.
The ‘WAG’s’ include shoe designer Terry Biviano, wife of NRL Sydney Roosters player Anthony Minichiello; event planner Lynette Bolton, wife of AFL Sydney Swans player Jude Bolton; promotions manager Jana Peterson, long-term girlfriend of NRL Cronulla Sharks player John Williams; fashion boutique owner Jackie Spong, wife of AFL Carlton Blues player Jarrad Waite; and model/flight attendant Chantelle Raleigh, then girlfriend of NBL Gold Coast Blaze player Adam Gibson.
The 10-part series takes a voyeuristic look into the lives of these five glamorous women as they juggle life and love with a fast-paced social calendar packed with launch events, fund-raising galas, movie premieres, front row seats at Fashion Week and sporting sidelines.
But behind all the glitz and glamour, these women are just the same as everyone else. Viewers will watch as they cope with the daily pressures of maintaining a successful relationship, the stress of managing their own careers and the disagreements that often come with trying to sustain the work-life balance with a high profile sportsman.
And then there are the highs and lows of supporting a professional sporting career, including the ever present threat of injury that could spell the end of their partner’s livelihood.
Over the course of the series, our five WAGS will prove that the stereotypical view of who and what a WAG is can often be way off the mark. They are driven and ambitious women who are chasing and realising their own dreams and goals, while helping their partner with his. Ultimately, they will show everyone there is far more to each of them than the label “WAG”.
WAG Nation is a new format created and produced by Shine Australia for FOXTEL. The series will air exclusively on Arena premiering Wednesday, April 18 at 9.30pm.
