Ten has set a precedent for premature program launch-ulation. The Biggest Loser, Young Talent Time, Homeland, and at least a couple have paid off. Tomorrow was meant to signal the first episode of their new morning news/light entertainment program Breakfast though it launched on Thursday last week to capitalise on the developments happening with the Federal Labor leadership. Did it pay off? Not necessarily in the ratings… though this is a marathon, not a sprint.

Breakfast is an interesting alternative to what is on offer on the other commercial networks at 6am weekdays. Sure, it’s still talking heads and light entertainment, but the inclusion of Paul Henry is going to make it an extremely watchable alternative.

The 84th Annual Academy Awards – the Oscars – will be screened live on Channel 9 during the day, and repeated from 7:30pm on GO! in the evening. The red carpet is usually the most entertaining part, though with the return of Billy Crystal as host that should offer some interest too.

This week the NRL is back this week and it won the Friday battle with the One Day International Cricket. The cricket will screen on Ch9 for the afternoon session, then on the east coast flip over to GEM for the evening session so the NRL can be broadcast on Ch9. You’d think the NRL broadcast rights were up for grabs or something…
