It was a short yet entirely entertaining series, and a surprise for it to pop up on SBS, but our Bollywood Star has been crowned and Teigan Lloyd-Evans now has the chance to build a career in Bollywood out of it. The series had a lot packed into a very short time and the four episodes are available to view on SBS catch-up – recommended and an easy viewing. The culture clash when the contestants landed in Mumbai made for some of the more interesting drama though the audition and rehearsal phase did hold their own in ensuring the series was captivating from start to finish. From the press release:

SBS’s colourful four-part series, Bollywood Star, came to a close on Saturday night, with Gold Coast girl Teigan Lloyd-Evans walking away as the winner. The series, made for SBS by WTFN Entertainment
(Bondi Vet, Keeping up with the Joneses), followed the search for an Australian Bollywood star: an unknown who will go on to win the prize of a lifetime – a part in a Bollywood movie.

To get there, Teigan had to come through the gruelling Australian audition process, against hundreds of other hopefuls. She was selected as one of six finalists to travel to Mumbai, where they were trained by the best coaches Bollywood has to offer, before two contestants were eliminated.

As one of the final four, she was immersed into everyday Indian life, visiting the Dharavi slums of Mumbai, and living and working with a local family. In the final round, Teigan was able to meet and perform for renowned Bollywood producer and director, Mahesh Bhatt, who ultimately selected her as the winner.

Teigan walks away with a coveted place in his next movie and the title of Australia’s own Bollywood Star.
