It’s passe to say the least that TV shows offer social media accounts and websites. Anyone can do that. Layering in an interactive app for your smartphone is actually quite intelligent; connecting the key demographic with the content and adding in practical uses for the app (other than just as a catch up for the program). I’ll download and review shortly. From the press release:

Sydney, Australia, January 31, 2012 – Yahoo!7 today launched the My Kitchen Rules app for iPhone. The free app will allow Australians to stay in touch with all the latest action from Manu Feildel, Pete Evans and the teams on Australia’s favourite home cooking show from Seven.

Fans will be able to access all the recipes from the show and share them with friends. Browsing for recipes will be easy with options to search based on teams, judges, ingredients or meal type. For added convenience, users will be able to create a shopping list of ingredients for the recipes they choose, ready for when they go grocery shopping.

Kristin Carlos, Head of TV Yahoo!7, said: “The My Kitchen Rules app for iPhone is perfect for those on the go that want to keep up-to-date with all the latest news from the show. Australians have very busy lifestyles and we wanted to provide an app that would conveniently allow people to search for all their favourite recipes, create shopping lists and more, anytime and anywhere.”

The new app also features an easy-to-use cooking timer and the ability to set reminders for when My Kitchen Rules airs on Channel Seven. Additionally, extra behind the scenes information on the judges and contestants will be made available within the app for iPhone.

“For our advertisers, the app offers a great way to target a highly engaged, predominantly female mobile audience through a range of Yahoo!7’s mobile advertising formats,” added Kristin.
