The Seven Network is continuing to chop and change its news strategies last night dumping its new Seven News theme music after just 4 days on-air and reverting back to John Williams ‘The Mission’ A theme that viewers have associated with Seven since 1999.

In a tweet by Seven’s Melbourne News reader Peter Mitchell last night he stated.

“our viewers wanted ‘The Summit by John Williams to return. We listened.”

The new theme had generated plenty of online criticism from viewers, most new things do. However the fact that Seven backpedalled so quickly is fascinating. One imagines that plenty of work and planning had gone into the new theme, to reverse decisions so quickly shows a lack of confidence from those that should be in charge.

I’m sure John Williams will be happy that he will continue to receive hefty royalty checks from Seven into the future.

Meanwhile Today Tonight’s long term future remains in doubt with Michael Lallo in the Sydney Morning Herald reporting.

“Following arch-rival Nine’s recent switch to a 6pm one-hour news service, senior Seven staff say the network is considering the same”

“One source said Today Tonight staff now have a “genuine fear” about the program’s future – not eased by the fact it was recently cut to 20 minutes in Sydney and Melbourne.”

“But those close to discussions insist that a final decision is yet to be made. All options are being closely scrutinised, including keeping Today Tonight in Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane. Seven may even retain it in Sydney and Melbourne, appoint a full-time host and return it to 30 minutes in length.”
