FOX8 has landed the exclusive rights for two new tv series, following a new content supply deal was secured this week between Foxtel and Warner Bros International Television.
The two series Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow have both been generating significant publicity recently and will help to sell Foxtel as the home of drama in the face of stiff competition from Netflix and other SVOD providers.
The new deal between Warner Bros and Foxtel was negotiated after the Nine Network made the decision break its distribution deal with the US studio.
Based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El, the cousin of “Superman”, comes, Supergirl, which will premiere on FOX8 on Sunday, December 6 at 8.30pm.
In the U.S., the series will spearhead the new season line up for broadcast network, CBS.
Legends of Tomorrow, a spin off of the highly successful series, Arrow and The Flash and focussing on time-travelling rogue Rip Hunter, will debut on FOX8 and U.S network, the CW, in early 2016.
These new series join FOX8’s existing schedule of DC Comics series including The Flash and Arrow, which both screen first on FOX8.
Following its debut last year, season two of The Flash will air Express from the US from Wednesday, October 7 at 7.30pm. Season four of Arrow will air Express from the US from Thursday, October 8 at 7.30pm.
In Supergirl, Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist), Superman’s cousin and unassuming office worker by day, decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.
Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton with her parents’ help at the same time as the infant Kal-El (Superman). Protected and raised on Earth by her foster family, the Danvers, Kara learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin in order to keep her identity a secret.
Now 24, Kara lives in National City assisting media mogul and fierce taskmaster Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart). She works alongside her friend and IT technician Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan) and famous photographer James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), who Grant just hired away from the Daily Planet to serve as her new art director. However, Kara’s days of keeping her talents a secret are over when Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), head of a super-secret agency where her sister Alex (Chyler Leigh) also works, enlists her to help them protect the citizens of National City from sinister threats.
Kara will need to find a way to manage her newfound empowerment with her very human relationships, though her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl to fight crime.
Legends of Tomorrow is the third show set within the world of Arrow and The Flash.
Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?
Legends of Tomorrow will feature a mix of actors that viewers of The Flash and Arrow are already familiar with and new faces, including Victor Garber (The Flash), Brandon Routh (Arrow), Caity Lotz (Arrow), Ciarra Renee, Franz Drameh, Dominic Purcell (The Flash) and Wentworth Miller (The Flash).
