2.87 Million Viewers For Day 2 of Fifth #Ashes Test Match

Over 2.87 million viewers across the country watched an extraordinary day of cricket yesterday as the battle between Australia and England continued on DAY 2 of the Fifth 2013 Commonwealth Bank Ashes Test at the SCG.  All eyes now look to today to see if DAY 3 – renamed Jane McGrath Day – will be the final day in the Ashes Series.

Nine’s coverage of DAY 2 attracted a National (5 City Metro + Regional) peak audience of more than 2.876 million and an average audience of 2.337 million with Total People (5 City Metro + Regional) (**OzTam figures below). 

The telecast attracted over 1.2 million viewers in each Session (5 City Metro) -achieving an enormous peak audience of 1.889 million (5 City Metro) and averaging1.558 million (5 City Metro) viewers in Session 3.  Yesterday’s Session 3 now ranks as the 2nd highest New Year Session ever, followed by Session 2 in 3rd place.

The Ashes: Fifth Test Australia V England easily dominated its timeslot across all key demographics; People 25-54, 18-49, 16-39 and Total People.

Cricket Australia Live – The Official App has now recorded a staggering 11.6 million visits.  The App is now on over 732K devices – allowing fans to view match stats and figures, watch video highlights, or stream the Channel Nine coverage live.

With more than 59,626 #Ashes tweets for DAY 2 of play of the Fifth Test, #Ashes tweets dominated Australian Social Trends yesterday, peaking at a massive 1,299tweets per minute during Session 1 of play. The peak occurred just after Pietersen’s wicket, with another huge spike of 813 TPM when Cook got out – the second and third highest TPMs of the entire Ashes Series (with number one place recording a high of 1,391 TPM, following Australia claiming the Ashes Series win).  More than 768,385#Ashes tweets have been tweeted so far throughout the Series.
