Things are really getting interesting at Ten with confirmation today Charlie Pickering is returning to The Project beginning tonight joining Carrie Bickmore and Peter Helliar.

Pickering will continue to host the program in a guest role during the networks coverage of The Commonwealth Games until mid-August when Rove McManus will move into the position for the rest of 2014.

While officially Ten is saying that Charlie is just back to help celebrate the fifth birthday of the program, Network sources have told this website Ten and Roving Enterprises are keen to bring stability back to the show and have always been hopeful of convincing Pickering to return in 2015.

Pickering left the show in April declaring he wanted to spend time travelling with his wife ahead of the birth of his first child later this year.

At the time of his departure Executive Producer of the program Craig Campbell announced he would not look to find a replacement for Pickering stating,

“I look forward to his return from the States and hope we will see him back on The Project sometime soon.”

The decision to return Picking further throws into doubt the future of Matt Doran, initially when Ten cut its News programming Doran had thought head found a safe home at The Project desk, however he now seems once again on the outer.

Speaking today Charlie Pickering said: “I tried really hard to get the Pickerings on Family Feud, and the network said if I did a bit of temp work they’d think about it. So survey says ‘Back at my old desk for a few weeks’.

“I’m really happy to be able to help celebrate The Project’s fifth birthday. I hope it goes better than my own fifth birthday, where my friend Angus cried and hid from the clown and I knocked my cake off the bench and the dog ate it. I don’t know how Pete feels about clowns, but I’m still hopeful,” he said.

Also on tonights show the panel speak to Masterchef Australia judge, Gary Mehigan. With Finals Week underway, Gary will give his insights into the final contestants ahead of the MasterChef Australia Finale on Monday, July 28, 7.30pm on TEN.

They also catch up with British music superstar Lily Allen in the studio before she performs her first show in Melbourne on her Sheezus World tour.
