Seven have checked out early, Nine not far behind them, the ABC battles on, and 10…well, all you can see is dust in the shape of a coyote…

Nine start with their best – A Current Affair (664,000) – which is fine however well off the pace of the same show in the same slot one month ago. Adele – Live In London (452,000) draws the larges primetime audience (nearly 40% better than Seven and 50% better than 10) however is crushed by the ABC. Emergency (307,000) and Love Island Australia (150,000) fill out the schedule, such that it is.
Nine first in both primary (18.7%) and network (28.8%) rankings.

Home and Away (526,000) give Seven their best post-News result by far, and it all slides from there. Big Brother Australia VIP (295,000) drops to its lowest viewership this season and that’s saying something. Sub-300k in primetime, and America’s Got Talent (148,000) barely drawing an audience? That, my friends, is contempt for you.
Seven second in both primary (17%) and network (28.1%) rankings.

Not only did the ABC win primetime with the 7:30 (550,000)/Hard Quiz (617,000) pairing, they also smashed the later night offerings with the Gruen (618,000)/Preppers (202,000) double. In fact, from 7:30pm-9:30pm, Aunty was unbeaten. Even a repeat of Back (99,000) and a new ep of Adam Hills: The Last Leg (72,000) could be considered “competitive”.
ABC third in both primary (14%) and network (19%) rankings.

The Project (228,000 6:30pm; 373,000 7pm) slip even further into indignity, especially at 7pm. If 10 aren’t going to cancel it they need to do something – and fast. The Bachelorette Australia (256,000) delivers slightly above its lowest for the season, and in a primetime slot on a commercial network to think this is even remotely acceptable is beyond delusion. Bull (155,000) and Lie With Me (108,000) barely drew an audience in the later and late night.
10 fourth in both primary (8.6%) and network (15.5%) rankings.

SBS’s Wednesday started with Scotland’s Sacred Islands with Ben Fogle (206,000), and extended into the first episode of Could You Survive On The Breadline? (180,000), followed by Before We Die (UK) (57,000).
SBS fifth in both primary (5.1%) and network (8.6%) rankings.

  1. Nine have said that their biggest revenue comes in from selling ads during the 6:00pm news and A Current Affair. Presumably they are not too unhappy despite the fall away after 7:30pm. Primetime really starts at 6:00pm, not 7:30pm.

    • Hi Gerard – All the commercial networks make their biggest cash from 6pm-7:30pm, unless their primetime (starting at 7:30pm) offering is doing massive business. 6pm is News, it is not primetime.
