It is the second year in a row that SBS has taken home the award, with its digital coverage of the 2012 Tour de Francewinning the inaugural award last year.

SBS’s multi-platform coverage of the Tour de France included the official Australian website, www.sbs.com.au/tdf; the SBSTour Tracker App and the Cycling Central Social Hub. “SBS is a leader of digital sports coverage, delivering true multi-platform experiences that bring greater value to our audiences. To win this award two years in a row is well-deserved recognition of the success of our digital coverage of theTour de France and the great team we have working at SBS,” said Ken Shipp, Head of Sport at SBS.

FOX SPORTS and FOX FOOTY’s Gerard Whateley were recognised for outstanding sports coverage at the annual Australian Sports Commission Media Awards ceremony in Melbourne.

FOX SPORTS won the coveted ‘Best Coverage of Sport by a Media Organisation’ award for its coverage of Rugby Union.

In a year which was highlighted by Australia’s three-Test series against the touring British and Irish Lions, FOX SPORTS carried on a strong tradition of innovation in its rugby coverage in 2013, backed by the premier commentary team in the game.

It was the second consecutive year FOX SPORTS has won the major award for sports broadcasting at the ASC Media Awards, having won in 2012 for its KFC Twenty20 Big Bash League coverage.

FOX FOOTY’s Gerard Whateley was also honoured on the night, scoring a rare ‘double’ after winning the ‘Best Coverage of Sport by an Individual’ award for both television and radio.

Whateley’s individual television gong was awarded for his work as co-host of FOX FOOTY’s ratings-winning AFL 360 show. Whateley won the same award in 2012 when the two categories were combined.

FOX SPORTS CEO, Patrick Delany, said: “We are extremely honoured to be recognised by the Australian Sports Commission at these awards.”

“FOX SPORTS is truly the home of rugby and it is outstanding recognition for our coverage to be judged ahead of any other sport, by any other media organisation, in what is a challenging time for the code.”
